WASHINGTON–AARP Create The Good and Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. [NYSE: JPM], today awarded Aviva Children’s Services of Tucson, Arizona, $21,000 as the grand prize winner in an online contest highlighting inspiring volunteer stories from across the country.

Aviva Children’s Services is a Tucson-based nonprofit that provides a variety of support services to children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or poverty and are in the custody of Child Protective Services. Aviva offers help by linking the children with community resources. Each of the other four nominees received $1,000 for being part of the “Be Inspired” contest.

“It has been a joy for us to share these stories of everyday heroes with others. Volunteer work provides tremendous support to our communities, and we hope that others have found inspiration to do more because of them,” said Barb Quaintance, AARP senior vice president of volunteer and civic engagement. “We are thankful that through our partnership with Chase we are able to award these worthwhile organizations, and help them continue their essential work.”

Create The Good (www.CreateTheGood.org) is a network of people sharing tools and ideas to help make a difference on their own or in larger groups in their communities. It is powered by AARP and the AARP Foundation’s more than nine million volunteers, donors and activists.

The Be Inspired contest, sponsored by Chase, invited members of Create The Good and AARP Chase Visa Cardmembers to submit their personal stories at AARP’s Create The Good website (www.CreateTheGood.org/stories). Members then voted for one of five finalists who inspired them the most.

“Chase is proud to support the selfless work of volunteers and organizations that provide critical community support. This is why we are delighted to help inspire others to do the same through the Be Inspired contest,” said Emelie Smith Calbick, general manager, Chase Card Services. “We congratulate Aviva Children’s Services and its fellow nominees for making a difference, and hope our contribution helps advance their efforts.”

T.R. Ellis for has spent a lifetime making sure that Christmases and birthdays are full of joy and cheer for the littlest ones in greatest need. Voters selected him for “adopting” families each year through Aviva Children’s Services, providing gifts, comfort and caring for children and families together with his wife Dee.

“It has been a privilege to work on behalf of Aviva Children’s Services. Never did I imagine that my volunteering would lead to such an incredible benefit for them and the people who I have been honored to work for and with for so long,” said Ellis. “I am grateful to AARP Create The Good, Chase and all who took the time to vote, for being so generous to Aviva and the people who we help.

The four additional nominees are:

  • Virginia Nonaca Chavez; American Red Cross, Greater Long Beach Chapter; Helping youth build character; California;
  • Glendora Greenway; Mid-South Food Bank; Feeding the hungry; Tennessee;
