Opportunity Details... Volunteers Tutors Needed!
Are you flexible, patient, and reliable, with strong academic and communication skills? Do you enjoy working with young people one-on-one or in small groups? Can you guide students in doing Internet research, learning vocabulary, practicing math skills, writing essays, or improving their English? Can you make a commitment of two hours a week for three months? The Next Step Public Charter School is seeking volunteers for the 2011-2012 school year. The Next Step aims to provide highly individualized instruction where students progress at their own pace. Volunteers are an important part of our program.
The Next Step is a bilingual high school/GED program for students ages 15-20. The Next Step's mission is to provide young people who face extraordinary challenges and who are not supported in traditional high schools the opportunity to continue their education. Qualifications: All volunteers must show proof of background check and TB test results. Spanish helpful but not required. Minimum commitment two hours/week for three months (September-December). Day school is in session from 9am-3pm, Monday through Friday. Must attend orientation before starting. Next Step Public Charter School encourages applications from people with diverse backgrounds.
Location: The Next Step is located at 1419 Columbia Rd., NW, and is easily accessible by metro and bus.
